As the pioneers of the mono-menu, HQ Restaurant has stood the test of time – a decade to be exact! With the celebration of their 10th birthday, we look back at how it all began!
HQ’s partners had a dream in 2008 – to create a restaurant that offers guests a simple yet premium menu at an affordable rate within a beautifully designed space. Thus, HQ was born.
“Many were sceptical about the mono menu, but we believed in the concept wholeheartedly – and as they say, the rest is history!” adds Iain Banner. “In many ways, it has become more than what we could have ever dreamed of. Over the years, we’ve introduced many regular and successful events such as Live Music Mondays, Date Night, Fine Wining Pairing Dinners as well as The Raise The Steaks Celebrity Chef Steak Dinners,” says Matt Mulholland.
“What we’re extremely proud of and grateful for, is that we’ve been voted (by the public) as one of the top 10 steakhouses in the country on a yearly basis. At the end of the day, all we want to do is deliver an exceptional experience to every guest that walks through our doors – quality over quantity (even though our portions are very generous!)” adds Mulholland.
A question on everyone’s lips has always been – why the mono menu of salad, steak and chips. “There are two reasons. From a business perspective, it allows for excellent stock management and from the guests’ perspective, it makes for an easy, elegantly simple dining experience. Not many guests enjoy long menus they have to trawl through. When you go to HQ, you know you’re getting. This way, there’s more time to have fun and enjoy the experience, while we focus on doing one thing perfectly – preparing your meal!” says Banner.
From a simple, curated menu, to an extensive and proudly South African wine list, tapas offering and a vibey weekend venue, HQ has seen and been part of so many memorable moments. From 21st birthdays, to charity events and even a wedding, HQ truly has been there for it all. “Thank you so much to each and every guest that has ever visited us, for your continued support, being our number one brand ambassadors week in and week out, and for always having a good time with us. We look forward to enjoying the next 10 years with you!” adds the partners!
